Yes – cloud video surveillance platforms can run over satellite or cellular connections, offering a reliable way to access features like remote viewing and analytics. There are a few things worth getting right first to make sure the setup stays reliable.
If you’ve got a remote site, SEiNG has worked out solutions for many rural deployments – from Charlie Bigham’s site in a quarry to construction sites that don’t have any WIFI at all. Book in a demo and we can have a chat.
Considerations for CCTV via Satellite or Cellular Connection
Your internet provider needs to offer a fast, stable connection — performance varies a lot between satellite and cellular providers, and that directly affects the quality and reliability of your feed. A few things to check before you commit:
Connection speed. Upload speed is what matters most here, not download. HD and multi-camera feeds need enough consistent upload bandwidth to avoid lag or dropped footage, so it’s worth checking this with your provider before you commit to a plan.
Data caps. Satellite and cellular plans often come with usage limits, and continuous video upload can eat through these fast. Look for plans with no cap, or a generous allowance, so you’re not hit with extra charges or a throttled feed partway through the month.
Unlimited or high-capacity plans. For a CCTV system that needs to run around the clock, an unlimited or high-capacity data plan is usually the safer bet — it keeps the system running without interruption.
Managed connectivity from SEiNG
SEiNG manages the trickier parts of this for you — monitoring data usage, tuning system performance, and providing support — so feeds stay reliable even in remote locations with variable connection speeds or data limits.
We’re also backed by Alert Data, who provide managed internet and connectivity services in their own right. That means we’re not just advising on CCTV setups from the outside — we’re set up to handle the connectivity side too, which puts us in a strong position to advise on even the trickiest sites.
Custom solutions for remote sites
Every site is different, and satellite or cellular setups can throw up some tricky problems. But in every case we’ve worked on to date, we’ve been able to find a solution — whatever the location or connectivity constraints. If you’ve got a site you’re not sure about, get in touch and we’ll talk it through. If it turns out that on prem is the best option, we can put you in touch with our integrator partners – but we’re confident that you can have the full benefits of cloud.
