Managing Live Video in SEiNG
SEiNG brings live footage from every one of your devices into a single view, so you can check in on a site, dig into detail on a specific camera, or scrub back through recent activity — all without leaving the page.
Getting to Live View
Once you've logged into SEiNG, navigate to Live View from the sidebar. SEiNG will automatically pull up footage from all of your live devices.
You're not limited to the sidebar, though — live streams are also available in a few other places:
- Maps – on your uploaded maps or floor plans, you can plot your cameras and view their live feeds directly from the map.
- Sites – when reviewing a site, click the Live View tab to see live camera feeds from every device within that site.
- Devices – click into a specific device to view its live feed, alongside its latest events and device status.
Finding and filtering devices
Along the top of Live View is a green search bar. From here you can:
- Search for a specific device by name
- Filter by site
- Filter by status – active, idle, or offline
- Change the layout of the page, to suit how many feeds you want to see at once
The media window
Each media window shows the device name, along with a traffic light in the top right corner – green for online, red for offline.
Hover over the top right of a media window and you'll see a switch labelled Preview and Live. By default, live video streams as a preview to save bandwidth. Switch this to Live if you need more detail in the picture.
While in Live, a drop-down appears next to the switch letting you choose between Low and High quality. This is really just choosing between the different encoder settings within the camera – High is the same stream that gets recorded, while Low is the default live view stream.
From the media window you'll also find controls for audio and full screen mode.
Instant scrubbing and playback
At the bottom of the media window is a control bar. Move your mouse side to side along it and you'll get instant scrubbing – letting you look back through recent footage rather than just watching what's happening now.
Click on any point on the bar and the media window switches into playback mode, with controls to pause and step forward or back in 5 second intervals. You can switch back to live video at any time.
Instant playback defaults to the last 10 minutes, but you can use the < and > arrows to move to previous time windows in 10 minute increments.
Once you're in playback mode, you also have access to:
- Context View – see media recorded around the event you're looking at, from other nearby devices
- Cases – create a new case or add the footage to an existing one, to track an investigation
- Manual footage markers – tag a moment in the footage so you can filter recordings by that marker later on
Motion preview
If you've set up motion alerts on a device, you can click the Motion Preview button to visualise the motion zone. This shows both the area being monitored and whatever is currently activating motion within it.
