Managing Devices in SEiNG

SEiNG gives you a single platform to view and manage all of your CCTV devices, legacy or new. Remember, as a fully managed service, our team are on hand to help you set-up and monitor your devices.

A snapshot of device health: your Dashboard

When you log into SEiNG, you’ll see your Dashboard – designed to give you a quick overview into site health.

Your Dashboard will show the number of your devices online at the top, plus provide you with a view of the 5 most recent cameras to have a “heartbeat” - a periodic signal from your cameras to SEiNG’s Cloud.

SEiNG dashboard

From your Dashboard, you can go to Device overview by clicking the yellow “View More Devices” button. Alternatively, you can view details for a specific device by clicking on the relevant line.

Devices

You can also access devices using the sidebar menu; simply click on “Management” then “Devices”.

Devices tab explained

The device tab lists all your devices connected to SEiNG. You’ll be able to see:

  • Status: green for online, grey for offline
  • Name: what the device is called
  • Site: each site is assigned a different colour for clarity
  • Uptime: how long the device has been continuously online
  • Version: current firmware running on device
  • ONVIF: confirms if the device supports ONVIF, indicated by a tick if enabled

The green bar along the top of the screen allows you to filter devices by site.

Device Overview

When you select a device, you’ll see its live feed and information under the Details tab.

Device Overview

Switch between a footage preview and high-quality live feed using the toggle in the bottom left corner of the media window.

Live Feed

To view the live feed in full screen mode, double-click the media window or click the Full Screen icon in the bottom-right corner. To return to the standard view, simply repeat the action or press the Esc key on your keyboard.

Under device details, you’ll be able to see technical details about the CCTV camera, including:

  • Device name

  • Description
  • Uptime
  • Boot time
  • Heartbeat
  • Last upload
  • Host name

Device specs

To the left, you’ll see the latest activity and ONVIF details.

Remote configuration

Next to the details tab is Remote configuration.

This tab allows you to configure your device and manage its settings.

Within remote configuration, you can select a region of interest from your camera feed; this will track motion within the defined region.

Remote Configuration

PTZ

The next tab is PTZ (Pan, Tilt, Zoom), where you can control cameras that have motorised movement.

Create custom presents to save a view, so you don’t have to move the camera manually each time. To do this, simply enter a preset name, tilt the camera to the desired position,  click the yellow “retrieve co-ordinates” button and save by clicking the green “Add Preset” button.

Adding Cameras to SEiNG

You can connect as many cameras to SEiNG as you need. As a managed Video Surveillance as a Service (VSaaS), our team will set-up your devices for you to ensure it’s all configured correctly.

Organising Devices: Sites & Groups

When your devices are set up, you can organise them by site or group provided you have permission to do so.

A site is a geographical location – it could be that you have multiple UK offices or a manufacturing unit in one city and a shop in another.

A group gives you flexibility to organise devices and sites however you need. For example, you might want to group every classroom camera across campuses, or every checkout camera in a store.

Setting up and managing sites

Access your sites via your Dashboard or click Management then Sites in the sidebar menu.

Managing sites

Sites are visualised on the map, with nearby locations clustered into a single numbered badge. As you zoom in using your mouse or the +/– controls, clusters expand to show individual sites, colour-coded in line with the key below.

You will also see your sites listed. SEiNG allows you to have an unlimited number of sites. You’ll see the:

  • Site name
  • Address
  • Device status
  • Controls: edit site, view devices

Adding a site

As a managed service, we can help set sites up for you. But it can also easily be done via your SEiNG platform.

Simply click the grey Add Site button in the top right corner. A pop up will appear.

Add site details

Under the Details tab, add the site name, description, address, and choose a colour for the badge. This colour will be used across the SEiNG platform to differentiate your sites.

The Device Group and Devices tab is where you select the devices related to the site. You can assign multiple devices by selecting a group, or assign individual devices.

Add devices

The final tab is Vault Settings. This remains blank when most sites are created, because it’s something we manage if required for you.

Once you have completed this information, press the green “Add Site” button.

Editing sites

From your Sites tab, click the yellow pencil button on the site you’d like to edit. A pop-up will appear, as it does when you add a site, allowing you to edit the details.

Viewing sites

To view a site, click on the relevant line from the Sites tab. This will take you to an overview of the specific site. Information displayed includes:

  • Number of devices
  • Devices online
  • Device groups assigned
  • Open cases
  • Geographical map

From here, you can edit the site using the grey button in the top right corner.

Using the green bar, you can switch to different tabs for the site.

  • In Maps, you can view and manage site maps. Read the guide to maps.
  • View assigned devices and associated details
  • Get a live view of camera feeds across your site

Organising and setting up groups

To access your Groups, click Management then Groups in the sidebar menu.

The Groups overview lists the groups you have set up. Groups can be filtered by site group or camera group.

Adding a group

To add a group, click the grey “Add Site or Device Group” button in the top right corner. A pop up will appear.

Manage groups of devices in SEiNG

Select the group type from the drop down. Site groups organise devices based in the same location, whereas camera groups organise groups of devices.

Next, name your group and add a description. You can also add the address and badge colour, if you want it to appear on the map.

Finally, select the relevant sites/ devices you wish to group. Click the green “Add Group” button.

Editing Groups

To edit a group, click the yellow button with a pencil icon next to the relevant group. Edit the details you need on the pop up.

Viewing Groups

To view a group, click the relevant group from the Groups tab.

You will see an overview of the group, including:

  • Devices in group
  • Devices online
  • Devices with update
  • Open cases

In the green bar, you can also view assigned devices.

The assigned devices tab displays all cameras within your group. Click on any device to open its Device Overview, which features a real-time live stream and detailed hardware status.
