Cloud Gateway Setup
The Cloud Gateway is a simple plug-and-play box that connects your CCTV cameras to SEiNG's UK Cloud storage. It's one of three ways to get your cameras up and running with SEiNG VSaaS. Explore what the Cloud Gateway is and if it's right for you.
What is the SEiNG Cloud Gateway?
The SEiNG Cloud Gateway is a small on-site plug-and-play device that bridges your CCTV cameras to SEiNG. It securely uploads video and metadata to the Cloud, with optional benefits including buffer storage, motion-only uploads to reduce bandwidth, and a cyber-hardened 'air-gap' that prevents external threats from reaching your hardware.
How The Cloud Gateway Works
Depending on your setup and security needs, you can have a single or dual network setup of the SEiNG Cloud Gateway.
Single Network Setup
- Everything shares one network (LAN).
- The Cloud Gateway connects to this LAN.
- All CCTV cameras also connect to the same LAN.
- The Cloud Gateway then sends the camera feeds to SEiNG over the internet.
Dual Network
- The Cloud Gateway has two interfaces:
- One connects to the business LAN / internet.
- The other connects to a dedicated CCTV-only network.
- All CCTV cameras sit only on the CCTV network.
- The Cloud Gateway acts as a secure bridge:
- It collects camera feeds from the CCTV network.
- It passes them securely to SEiNG over the business LAN/internet.
Why Use The SEiNG Cloud Gateway?
The Cloud Gateway offers a convenient way to get your devices online - especially if you have large sites, legacy hardware, or want to keep some local controls.
It's simple to bring new, legacy, or a mixed fleet of ONVIF or RTSP cameras to the cloud. This will help you save cost and hassle, whilst giving you the flexibility to scale.

Frequently Asked Questions about the SEiNG Cloud Gateway
A gateway device for cloud CCTV is a secure on-site appliance that connects existing CCTV cameras to a cloud video platform.
It sits between the camera network and the internet, managing video streams locally before securely transmitting them to the cloud. This allows organisations to use cloud CCTV services without replacing existing cameras or exposing them directly to the internet.
For SEiNG, the Cloud Gateway performs several functions:
- Securely connects new or legacy cameras to SEiNG's cloud platform
- Manages local access to camera feeds
- Encrypts video and metadata before transmission
- Optimises bandwidth usage and upload performance
- Maintains security boundaries between camera networks and business networks
By using a gateway device, cameras remain protected on the local network while still benefiting from cloud features such as remote access, centralised management, and scalable storage.
It's important to note that a gateway isn't essential for SEiNG. As a true-cloud platform, you can connect Cloud or IP cameras straight to SEiNG without a gateway box. However, should you require buffering, want to optimise bandwidth, or have lots of devices, a Gateway may be a good option.
It depends on your VSaaS provider of choice and deployment method.
SEiNG works with any ONVIF or RTSP security camera and is a serverless true Cloud solution. As such, certain deployments with Cloud or IP cameras already in place require no new hardware at all. If legacy cameras are used, buffer storage required, or bandwidth needs to be optimised, a Cloud Gateway may be recommended. This is a small plug-and-play device which brings any CCTV camera to the Cloud.
Other VSaaS providers may require you to rip out existing cameras for their proprietary hardware to access full features - such as AI analytics. Cloud-based rather than true-Cloud CCTV systems may also require AI NVRs, in place of your traditional NVR or DVR. This adds further cost and complexity to your CCTV system.
SEiNG is unique in the Cloud CCTV space for offering a VSaaS platform that works seamlessly with any camera, plus a fully managed service to save IT time.
Where other VSaaS providers limit features such as AI analytics to their proprietary hardware, or charge extra for enterprise tools, SEiNG keeps it simple. It gives you the freedom to keep legacy cameras or choose new ones, and makes them smarter with remote access, rapid search, and AI-powered video. It also makes your CCTV system more secure, providing robust access controls (Single Sign On, 2-Factor Authentication, and role-based access), end-to-end encryption, and automatic upgrades.
This is topped off with a managed service that gives you peace of mind that your system is set-up and running as it should be, and your fully-trained team know how to use it. All this is included in a simple subscription payment, starting at £5/month. No tiers - every customer gets the most secure and feature-rich version of the software.
